Way to go, Kiwis!

Indian cricket board must be wondering how on earth their NZ counterparts had the gumption to drop Nathan Astle, arguably NZ's best one day player, immediately after his match-winning innings. Here in India, Ganguly was not supposed to be dropped after he made two labourious innings of 30s in each innings! Of course, the stakes are different. Ganguly had every Bannerjee, Chatterjee and Mukherjee ready to go on an arson if he were not selected. The cricket board itself was seen as biased towards him (not that I can convincingly say they were not!). But NZ, Aus show how to be ruthless when it comes to handling your senior players...if they do not deserve to be in the team, then they should not be.

Yesterday'z blabbering by Indian team manager, the man who cant control his tongue, Raj Singh Dungarpur, just shows how improbable it is that Ganguly will be comfortable in the Indian dressing room. This to me indicates that this all going only one way....the Nayan Mongia way, where Ganguly will not be taken into the team on one pretext or the other. Only things that may save Ganguly is that he'z a much stronger man, and the Bannerjee's, Chatterjee's and Mukherjee's!

Your way is the best for you, but that is no sign that it is the best for others.

Ur blog's sure gonna invite ire from the "Bhadralok" of Bengal for openly coming out against Dada! But thats another issue. What I too had posted in many cricket blogs have found an echo here. And thats - NO ONE IS INDISPENSABLE! Forget someone's contribution to Indian cricket blah, blah......! Age is one factor which is heavily loaded against Dada. Also, even in his prime he never was a good fielder or runner between wickets. So, it dosesn't make much sense to retain him for the WC 2007 side. As far as tests are concerned, that again's debatable. With Yuvraj and Kaif sitting out to accomodate Ganguly it all appears ludricious. I feel the only course left open to Dada is honourable retirement before it gets too late! I am remembering legendary Vijay Merchant's quip when he suddenly announced his retirement at the peak of his form "Its better to retire when people are asking WHY, rather than them asking WHEN !

Vinayak, Could not really agree with you on the Ramdev Maharaj issue. I guess he has more skeletons (or rather bones) in his shelves.

Dr.Sundeep, First of all, good to see a doctor in the blogosphere! I mean no offense to you or the medical community, but having quite a few friends and relatives as doctors, I have hardly seen IT-savvy docs :)

Also, could not agree more with you on the Gabguly issue. But then, funny is the way our selectors behave, and Ganguly is back in the team today!

Whats even more intriguing is the fact that Ganguly may open the innings and today I saw him bowling! Anyway that was the package deal - He's being taken as an ALLROUNDER ! By the way forgot to mention that even Darren Lehman and Micheal Bevan had to face the axe recently just bcoz they happened to be on the wrong side of 30!
